Personalised eating disorder support Training
PEDS offers a sliding scale of resources and programmes, dependent on budget and need of each setting. This can range from a full programme of CPD, group sessions for students, skills development for parents and carers, awareness raising workshops to lesson plans and resources. All workshop facilitators are fully trained and enhanced DBS checked, with a breadth of experience working in health, education and or training.
What We Offer:
- GP Surgeries & Other Medical Professionals: We provide an overview of what eating disorders are, the types, prevalence and how to spot signs and symptoms. The session then covers how to have a conversation and where to seek additional support/onward referral. There are 60-minute Introductory Workshops and extended CPD sessions which include further information and more detailed explorations of how to undertake a baseline assessment, local provision and an opportunity for anonymised case study discussion.
- Educational Professional CPD Training: We provide an overview of what eating disorders are, the types, prevalence and how to spot signs and symptoms and how this differs between primary and secondary age children. The session then covers how to have a conversation and where to seek additional support/onward referral. There are 60-minute Introductory Workshops (which can be delivered to core staff e.g. SLT / PSHE / Mental health leads, or the whole school) and extended CPD sessions which include further information and more detailed explorations of what the school can do to support students with an eating disorder and an opportunity for anonymised case study discussion. Many schools have highlighted the need to raise awareness amongst parent and carers also. Within our 90 minute parent carer sessions, we cover the above items whilst also touching on family behaviours/rules around food, top tips for a fun environment at home around mealtimes and what parents and carers can do to support their loved ones at home.

- General Awareness Raising Training: These sessions are aimed at any organisation that would like to learn more to support their employees or members. We provide an overview of what eating disorders are, the types, prevalence and how to spot signs and symptoms. The session then covers how to have a conversation and where to seek additional support/onward referral.
- Body Project: The Body project has demonstrated through sixteen years of evidence a reduction in the subscription to the appearance ideal and body dissatisfaction. It is the only class to have an evidence base of significantly reducing eating disorder onset and negative mood. The training occurs during school times so students must be able to miss a lesson (can be delivered in 4 x 1 hour sessions or 6 x 45 minute sessions depending on school schedule). Class size is max 12 students. The class is for students who self-identify as having body image concerns, ages 14-25 years. The training provides cognitive dissonance to counter the appearance ideal. We can deliver to girls and young women, boys and young men (More than Muscles) and LGBTQIA+ (Every’body’/PRIDE) groups.

- New Maudsley Approach Carer Skills Workshops: The aim of these 5 x 2 hour workshops (virtual or in person) are to provide parents/carers with communication tools, skills and techniques so they are able to engage with their loved one and improve their self-esteem and resilience whilst they are on their journey.
- Workshop one-Introductions, psychoeducation, emotions and empathy
- Workshop two-cycle of change and motivational language
- Workshop three-reflecting on caring responses what to try when things feel stuck
- Workshop four coaching your loved one to make their own changes
- Workshop five review and reflect
Evidence has shown that distress and burden is reduced for carers and that these positive benefits are passed onto the people with eating disorders themselves.
